Fellows Program and Honors
Honorary Presidents
The foundation names distinguished persons as Honorary Presidents of the foundation. This is the highest honor the foundation awards to individuals. No one can apply for this honor and it is solely by invitation only. Honorary Presidents are not officers of the foundation and they do not have decision making or voting rights, unlike Board of Directors.
Academy Fellows
Academy Fellows are distinguished persons working in the field of AI and are already recognized by advanced nations' (UK, USA, France, Germany, etc.) National Academy, such as NAE, NAS, RAE, etc. No one can apply to be an Academy Fellow of the foundation. Rather, the SAFE AI Foundation appoints such persons to be Academy Fellow by invitation only.
Foundation fellows who subsequently are elected to national academy of advanced nations are automatically elevated to Academy Fellow grade.
Foundation Fellows
Foundation Fellows are distinguished persons working in the field of AI and have made noticeable impact.
Candidates working in the AI field can apply to be a Foundation Fellow, but their applications will be evaluated by a panel comprising of Academy Fellows. If successful, the candidate will be admitted as a Fellow of the SAFE AI Foundation.
Applications are opened to candidates from all countries and from all sectors of work (industry, universities, public sector). Candidates need to provide evidences to prove the significance and impact of their AI work. They must work on some aspects of Safe AI, be it promotion, advocacy, advancement or research.
All successfully elected Foundation Fellows must pledge to safeguard AI, execute SAFE AI practices in their professions and will not use AI in a harmful or unlawful way. Violators of this pledge can be expelled from the fellowship permanently.
There is no annual fee for Foundation Fellows. The fellowship is a lifetime recognition. All elected fellows will receive a Fellow Certificate.

Application Process
Applications for the 2027 Foundation Fellows is now open. Applications are processed as soon as they are received.
Cutoff date for 2027 Fellows is 31 JAN 2027.
Successful applications will be announced in JUNE each year and will receive a Certificate of Fellowship.
Elected fellows can use the initials SAIFF or FSAIF to symbolize their grade.
Unsuccessful applicants are allowed to reapply in the next round.
Professionals who are outstanding AI engineers, researchers, AI policy and governance leaders, Chief AI Officers, AI CTOs, or an exceptional academic or Professor, could be appropriate candidates for SAFE AI Foundation Fellow.
