Fellows and Honors

Honorary Presidents

The foundation names distinguished persons as Honorary Presidents of the foundation. This is the highest honor the foundation awards to individuals. No one can apply for this honor and it is solely by invitation only. Honorary Presidents are usually Noble Prize winners or Turing Award winners and have made a major global impact in the field of AI.

Academy Fellows

Academy Fellows are distinguished persons working in the field of AI and are already recognized by their respective country's national academy, such as NAE, NAS, RAE, etc. No one can apply to be an Academy Fellow of the foundation. Rather, the SAFE AI Foundation appoints such persons to be Academy Fellow by invitation only.

Foundation Fellows

Foundation Fellows are distinguished persons working in the field of AI and have made noticeable impact. Candidates working in the AI field can apply to be a Foundation Fellow, but their applications will be evaluated by a panel comprising of Academy Fellows. If successful, the candidate will be admitted as a Fellow of the SAFE AI Foundation.

Applications are opened to candidates from all countries and from all sectors of work (industry, universities, public sector). Candidates need to provide evidences to prove the significance and impact of their AI work. They must work on some aspects of Safe AI.

All successfully elected Foundation Fellows must pledge to safeguard AI, execute SAFE AI practices in their professions. and will not use AI in a harmful or unlawful way. Violators of this pledge can be expelled from the fellowship permanently.

There is no annual fee for Foundation Fellows. The fellowship is a lifetime recognition.

Application Process

Applications for the 2025 Foundation Fellows will be opened soon. Watch this space for application procedures. Successful applications will be announced in November of each year and will receive a Certificate of Fellowship. Unsuccessful applicants are allowed to reapply in the next round.
