AI Education Ecosystem

Importance of AI Education
In the new Era of AI, AI Literacy is important for everyone. The SAFE AI Foundation takes a serious view that everyone should know a bit (if not a lot) about AI and how it can be useful to us. AI itself is a technology and introducing AI into society has many implications on our lives and work. Hence, it is time to GET TO KNOW AI.
Role of SAFE AI Foundation in AI Education
The role of SAFE AI Foundation in AI Education is to function as the Captain of the Ship (AI Education Ecosystem), as shown by the main gear or steering wheel in the Figure above, to help steer AI Education in the RIGHT DIRECTION so that effectively, the mission of making AI Safe & Useful For All can be achieved.
The creators of AI are humans, and properly trained and educated humans make AI products that are useful and safe for all.
Why is it an Ecosystem..?
Our Figure above depicts the AI Education Ecosystem. This shows the major key players in AI Education, where one locks on and drives the other, yielding synergy and accumulative forces to fulfil the transfer of AI Knowledge and Skills. The "gears" of the ecosystem include:
Universities
Colleges
Private Academy
Industry Courses
Others
No single organization can provide all the teaching and training on AI, as different curricula are required for different kind of audiences.
There are 4 Essential Types of AI Education offerings:
AI Executive Programs
AI Professional Education
AI For College / Uni- Students
AI For Kids, Adults & Public

AI LEADERS & EXECUTIVES

AI PROFESSIONALS

AI COLLEGE STUDENTS

AI FOR KIDS, ADULTS & PUBLIC
AI Executive Education
Executive leaders (CEOs, CXOs, etc) lead and run organizations to fulfil business goals. As AI comes into play, business opportunities arise and business operating models will have to change. The modern executive needs new understanding of:
How to capture the opportunities provided by AI?
How to introduce AI into his/her company?
How to deal with the implications of AI on:
a. Current jobs & new hires
b. Current products / services
c. New products / services roadmap
d. Work flows and processes
e. Risks introduced by AI
f. Compliance to AI rules, AI Safety, and regulations
The new AI Strategy needed to execute
etc.
The foundation has provided a list of AI Executive Education Providers for the public to know what is available.
NOTE: The SAFE AI Foundation has not formally reviewed nor endorsed these programs and readers are advised to exercise their own considerations and judgement.
AI Professional Education
Existing professionals working in industries may have to upgrade their knowledge and skills to better equip themselves with the capability to lead, develop, and manage AI within their organizations. The gaps here are:
New AI technical courses that covers LLM models, algorithms, NLP, vision, agents, guardrails, AI security, etc.
Extended non-computer-science subjects such as AI Ethics, AI Governance (policies, regulations, etc), AI Standards, and Responsible AI
Some private for-profit companies are providing ONLINE certificate and degree courses to professionals, such as:
Linkedin Courses
Coursera / Microsoft Courses
Coursera / IBM Courses
Udemy AI Courses
Udacity Courses
Google's "Learn AI Skills"
Masterclass Courses
AWS AI Training
etc.
NOTE: The SAFE AI Foundation has not formally reviewed nor endorsed any of these courses and readers should exercise their own judgement if they do decide to join these courses.
AI University Education
Universities have been crucial in providing computer science and engineering graduates for the IT and now the AI Industries. Universities will continue to fulfil this role to offer Masters and PhD degrees in AI and to educate undergraduates and graduates.
Some of the universities offering Masters degree in AI include:
John Hopkin's AI Masters Program
UPenn's MSE in AI
UT Austins' Master's in AI
etc
However, with gradual replacement of jobs by AI, more workers (including engineers) are being laid off. It is crucial that Universities start to prepare for the change, as job market has changed as a result of AI making certain jobs redundant.
SEE: AI Transformation in Universities Framework and "AI & Jobs".
AI Public Education
Kids in elementary and middle schools have now been exposed to what is AI and how AI has evolved into, such as CHATGPT, AI Agents and Humanoid Robots.
Adults who are not into technology have also learnt about AI through news media, social media, AI Foundations (such as SAFE AI Foundation), magazines (TIMES, Economists, WIRED, etc. ) and AI conferences.
